I do not have a personal website, so this blog post is going to be a mini-FAQ to local i.e. South African recruiters to explain why I am no longer entertaining them as of 2016. This does NOT affect recruitment companies outside of SA, as they provide an essential service.
Why did I take this decision?
Simply put, the local recruitment agency is a bit of a sweatshop. Its commission driven, and the recruiters are not interested in anything except raking in the cash for the least amount of effort. It is one thing making a statement like that, but let's explore that a little bit, shall we:

The thorny issue of references
We all have worked for bosses, that, simply put, hated our guts. Asking them for references, is as useful as asking me for a cure for AIDS, its not going to end well. If you are basing your assumption on me, on the strength of one or two individuals that have sour grapes, then I am afraid we should not even be talking, let alone considering a professional relationship.
