At the office we are looking into using new stuff. The situation was similar when I was at a previous company and had the privilege of working with Laurie Butgereit on these new technologies.
So, basically, Go is created to make coding easy, but it leverages on all the good points of the various programming languages that came before i.e. C, C++, C#, Java, etc..
My new standard test of most languages is not merely "Hello, world" but the awesome hedgehog-worthy task of doing a network listener i.e. a fully functional TCP server. As can be seen, its even easier to do this in Go, than in Python, and when you compile this you get a straight, ready-to-run executable. How awesome is that!
